How to protect your community from scams

Why scams are dangerous

Scammers attack trust in your community. One successful phishing attempt and members blame the admins. So scam protection isn't optional — it's part of your project's reputation.

Common schemes

  • Fake admins — copy the name and avatar, DM members "about a violation".
  • Fake giveaways and investment bots — promise profit, lead to phishing.
  • Fake support bots — harvest codes and seed phrases.

How to close the gaps

  • Block links and forwards for new members.
  • Publicly warn that admins never DM first.
  • Remove suspicious messages by meaning, not just keywords.
  • Protect admin profiles (private DMs, "admin" badge).

Automated anti-scam

Scam messages are often reworded to bypass simple filters. Semantic analysis (Mod Assistant Bot) catches suspicious patterns and removes them before members even see them. Combined with entry verification, this neutralizes most threats automatically.
